How to wing Project Management (if you’re a beginner)
October 11th, 2006I’ve learnt Project Management by being thrown into it unaware! Fortunately, since then I’ve had some experienced people to learn from, but if you find yourself in the deep end without a paddle, here’s my survival guide.
Essentially managing a project is all about common sense and organisation! Here’s a few things you should definitely keep an eye on:
- Communication - internal, external, 3rd party. Watch it like an eagle and make sure it doesn’t break down. This is THE most important thing you can do!
- Change management - ensure you have a process and ideally have the client bought into it!
- Assume nothing - If you haven’t heard anything, don’t assume it’s going as planned!
- Progress tracking - This isn’t just for you, your team should know where they are in a project too.
