How to wing Project Management (if you’re a beginner)

I’ve learnt Project Management by being thrown into it unaware! Fortunately, since then I’ve had some experienced people to learn from, but if you find yourself in the deep end without a paddle, here’s my survival guide.

Essentially managing a project is all about common sense and organisation! Here’s a few things you should definitely keep an eye on:

  1. Communication - internal, external, 3rd party. Watch it like an eagle and make sure it doesn’t break down. This is THE most important thing you can do!
  2. Change management - ensure you have a process and ideally have the client bought into it!
  3. Assume nothing - If you haven’t heard anything, don’t assume it’s going as planned!
  4. Progress tracking - This isn’t just for you, your team should know where they are in a project too.
